YOU CAN MAKE A CHANGE
IN THE LIFE
OF ONE CHILDTODAY
MENTORING BOYS TO BECOME MEN
Members of the Pearl Foundation believe that every youth's life is important regardless of the circumstances or environment they are born into. Our goal is to help under-served youth in the South Puget Sound successfully transition to Adulthood. Our aim is to see them become productive, engaged, law abiding citizens; who are connected to meaningful work and healthy relationships..
The Pearl Foundation provides a structured mentorship program with the above targeted outcomes in mind through the Passport to Manhood Program at the Al Davies Boys & Girls Club in Tacoma, Washington; Big Brothers and Big Sisters; and the Tacoma Urban League's Male Involvement Program.
CHANGING THE FUTURE OUTLOOK
The research is very clear; when mentoring is done well - it can be informational. Studies show that kids who are mentored can reach their true potential through positive relationships and utilization of community resources. Often kids who are mentored become mentors themselves which creates a self perpetuating program. Our foundation concentrates on young males of color because:
-
Young males of color are much more likely to live in poverty
-
Young males of color experience higher than average school suspension rates
-
Young males of color are under represented in higher level & advanced coursework
